The Dept. of Agriculture-BFAR through the Provincial Fishery Office of Benguet conducted the Fisheries Regulatory Training with our BLGU officials, officers, and stakeholders of this program.
The activity aimed to enlighten our resident stakeholders on RA 10654 and its IRR, “An act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, amending RA No. 8550 otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998”.
The facilitators also touched on the adverse effects of illegal fishing, the detection of the use of explosives in fish caught, and the preservation of evidence in the process. Determination of existing local laws and rules relative to this malpractice was also sought during the activity.
The Office of the Municipal Agriculture assisted the BFAR facilitators with Mr. Ramon M. Anacioco, our Mun. Agriculturist, as the focal person on municipal fisheries and aquatic resources. Mr. Laurel Garambas represented our Municipal Mayor in welcoming the BFAR team. Mayor A. Dacumos also attended another government function being held outside of our municipality.
